The Dark Side Of Ambition

As much as I hate the Ku Klux Klan, I gotta admit that their hard work and perseverance has paid off, which a huge jump in membership in recent years, as reported by CNN:

• Ku Klux Klan rebounding by exploiting hot-button issues, report says
• Klan uses, stirs up anti-immigrant sentiments, says Anti-Defamation League
• Hate group watchdog says Klan chapters grew 63% between 2000 and 2005
• ADL says Klan cooperating with other extremist groups more than before

Those are the “highlights” of the story and quite disturbing to me, as I’d like to hope that people would grow as they saw the value of diversity in modern society and at the very least, the need to accept other cultures in this increasingly small world. I’m not sure how you can ever conquer this kind of blind and violent hatred, but I guess all minorities such as myself can do is be the best people we can, leading a moral and virtuous life, hoping that our lives and actions show people that racism is not only illogical, it’s the refuge of the ignorant and the stupid.

I could go on a rant about the KKK and other hate groups that inspire violence, but chances are that if you’re reading this, you’re immune to their propaganda and bile, so I’ll just finish by saying I hope that in the future we’ll learn to overcome these petty base emotions. I hope that we’ll become more than just the sum of our weaknesses and become shining beacons of strength, embracing the goodness inside each and every one of us.
