    One of the most frustrating aspects about Neon Genesis Evangelion is the sense mystery that permeates the series. Just as each question is answered, the answer leads to more questions and brings into doubt any "knowledge" we think we have. So what are the mysteries and what are the answers? This page will try and help answer all your questions. Probably the ultimate EVA FAQ is Ikari Gendo's Ultimate Evagelion FAQs Homepage but like all EVA faqs, it is a matter of opinion and interpretation how you "solve" the mysteries of EVA.

    1. Who or what are the Angels?

    3. Who or what is Rei Ayanami?
      Rei Ayanami is a clone of Yui Ikari and the Angel Lillith. The first Rei is killed by Naoko Akagi, the second sacrifices herself and the third causes the 3rd Impact. Rei's body is a vessel for a soul which can be transferred from body to body (many reserve bodies were in storage in Central Dogma) and she does retain many of her old memories, though they reside at a level not always available to her.
    4. What are Gendo's true machinations?

    5. Who killed Ryoji Kaji?
      Though many believe it was Misato who killed him, (due to her time of release and other visual hints) it would stand to reason that SEELE killed him. Kouzou tells him that his actions will result in his death and betrayal of SEELE was never tolerated by the committee.
